Khalil Alrez is invited to the conference “Russian-Arab Worlds: From Intrepid Individuals to Transregional History” which will take place on Friday, 30 June 2023 in at the Forum Transregionale Studien (Wallotstr. 14, 14193 Berlin). This event is in the context of the launch of the anthology “Russian-Arab Worlds: A Documentary History”. This book explores the roots of Arab countries’ current Russian entanglements, which reach deep into the Soviet and even tsarist periods. The book also points to a new way of teaching and studying Russia, its borderlands and neighbors in the Caucasus and Central Asia, and its Arabic-speaking interlocutors.
Khalil Alrez will also be reading from his book, along with his translator into English, Margaret Litvin, on Thursday 29th, 7-8:30 pm, at Khan Al Janoub.
Khalil Alrez is the author of “A sleepless giraffe in Damascus”. The novel is a 2023 PEN/Heim grantee, translation by Margaret Litvin.
