The Assises Internationales du Roman, Lyon, was conceived and organized in 2007 by the Villa Gillet and Le Monde, in partnership with France Inter, and in co-direction with Les Subsistances. Every year, in May, this event brings together writers, journalists, artists, researchers, men and women of science, from the world, for a whole week. Topics that have been looked into from the various backgrounds include crime in literature, the role of memory, the links between reality and fiction, and more generally, the links to society.
The Assises are also a place of literary creation, given that each guest offers the public two original, unpublished texts: they define a keyword and read a text at the beginning of the event, which is then published in the Actes des Assises.
This year’s event counts among its guests French writers Virigine Despentes and Erik Orsenna, French singer Arthur H, and many others. For more on this event, visit the Villa Gillet’s website.
