The Sudanese Cultural Center Abdel Karim Mirghani has recently advertised the third edition of the Tayeb Saleh creative writing competition.
Not only is it interesting that only young voices, aged between 18 and 30, are allowed to participate, suggesting that the aim of this enterprise is to encourage young artists and more generally writing, but the competition is also for short stories. Fiction is being pushed forward in parts of the world where reading is generally mostly about non fiction.

Third session (2010 – 2011) of the Tayyeb Saleh prize for creative writing
Terms of the competition:
1. Any Sudanese young woman or man, aged between 18 and 30 may take part to this competition with one text of fiction, this competition being meant as an incentive for young talented artists.
2. The competition is open to any kind of text, to the extent that the story deals with humanitarian issues in general. It has to be between 500 and 3000 words.
3. The text should have never been published, in any kind of medium, or otherwise submitted, or the winner of another competition.
4. The deadline is February 10, 2011
5. On a separate page, please specify the full name, a copy of the birth certificate or document that allows to estimate the age of the participant, postal address, phone number and e-mail address.
6. Send the short story in three printed copies, and preferably attach a digitial copy on CD, by registered mail to the following address: Cultural Center Abdel Karim Mirghani – PO Box 1865 Postal Code 14 411 Omdurman – Sudan. You may also deliver it directly to the Secretariat of the prize.
7. The works will be shown to a committee, who will choose the winner of the first prize, and the 9 remaining winners of the appreciation prize.
8. The secretariat will not return the submissions to their respective owners.
9. The winner of the prize will be announced on April 6, 2011.
10. The prizes:
* The first prize is of a value of 1,000 Sudanese pounds
* The 9 other winners will receive appreciation prizes
* The Cultural Center Abd al-Karim Mirghani reserves the right to publish the winners of this competition

الدورة الثالثة(2010 – 2011م)
شروط المسابقة :-
1. يحق لأية شابة أو شاب سوداني في عمر لا يقل عن 18 عاماً ولا يزيد عن 30 عاماً المشاركة بنص قصصي واحد من أجل الفوز بهذه المسابقة التشجيعية للمبدعين الشباب.
2. المسابقة مفتوحة، بحيث تعالج القصص القضايا الإنسانية عامة، على ألا تقل كلماتها عن (500 خمسمائة كلمة) وألا تزيد عن (3000 ثلاثة ألف كلمة).
3. شريطة أن يكون النص القصصي المقدم للمسابقة لم يسبق له أن طبع في كتاب أو نشر في أي وسيلة من وسائل النشر أو فاز في مسابقة مشابهة.
4. آخر موعد لتسليم الأعمال القصصية 10 فبراير 2011م.
5. ترفق الأعمال بالاسم الرباعي وصورة من شهادة الميلاد أو تقدير العمر للمتسابق والعنوان البريدي ورقم الهاتف والبريد الإكتروني (إن وجد) في صفحة منفصلة.
6. ترسل القصة القصيرة مطبوعة بحرف مقروء (عدد ثلاث نسخ) ويفضل إرفاق (القرص المدمج المرن CD) بالبريد المسجل إلى العنوان التالي: مركز عبد الكريم ميرغني الثقافي – ص ب 1865 الرمز البريدي 14411 أم درمان – السودان، أو تسليمها مباشرة إلى سكرتارية الجائزة ( مركز عبد الكريم ميرغني الثقافي بأم درمان – حي العمدة شرق – غرب صينية الدومة).
7. تعرض الأعمال للجنة تحكيم من ذوي الاختصاص لاختيار النص الفائز بالجائزة وتسمية النصوص الفائزة بالجوائز التقديرية من الثاني و حتى العاشر، ويكون قرار اللجنة نهائياً، كما يحق لها حجب الجائزة إذا لم يتوفر المستوى المطلوب.
8. سكرتارية الجائزة غير ملزمة بإعادة النصوص المشاركة إلى أصحابها.
9. يعلن عن النصوص القصصية الفائزة في 6 أبريل 2011م.
10. القيمة المالية للمسابقة :
1.1القصة الفائزة بالجائزة الأولى 1,000 جنيه (ألف جنيه لا غير).
2.1 القصص من (2-10) تمنح جوائز تقديرية.
11. يحق لمركز عبد الكريم ميرغني الثقافي نشر النص الفائز بالمسابقة والنصوص الحائزة على الجوائز التقديرية.
